When the moon hits your eye like a Big Pizza Pie!

It's Friday so it must be Pizza Pie night. To accommodate different tastes and lent I usually make a few different types of Pizza Pies to please everyone. Since I am originally from New York I can rarely find a Pizza Pie in my area of town that compares with the texture or taste of the Pizza Pie my Grandmother use to prepare. The secret is in the dough and also the gravy (sauce). So let me share with you a quick and easy pizza dough recipe. Your family can have fun putting their own spin on the toppings but please no Pineapple!

Ingredients for one pizza pie crust:
1 pkg fast acting yeast
2/3 cup warm water
1 2/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp olive oil

Dough:
Dissolve yeast in warm water.
Blend four & salt in food processor. Add oil & blend.
With processor running, add yeast mixture, blending until dough forms a ball.
Knead on a lightly floured board for 5 minutes. Shape into a round ball.
Place in a bowl that had been oiled and turn to coat.
Let dough rise, covered in plastic, in a warm place until doubled, approx 1 1/4 hours.
Place dough on a floured surface, shape into round shape to fit pizza stone.

Assemble Pizza with toppings.

Preheat oven 500 degrees. Bake approx 12-15 minutes.

MANGIA!

  1. I can almost smell it cooking. Now, where is my glass of wine to sip on until it's ready?

  2. I love pizza but there are so many pizza restaurants around here that I don't try to make my own very often. In fact, we're planning to go to Red Devil Pizza tonight for pizza and spaghetti. That's our favorite.

  7. Oh my, what a good looking pie! Some New Yorkers opened a New York style pizza parlour out here where we live and it is the best.

  10. So what's wrong with pineapple?? I like a good ham and pineapple pizza...Only from Mellow Mushroom...it goes well with their sweet crust...if not theirs I hate everyone elses...I usually make mine own too but when we crave a hometown pie the best we found is Fellini's over on Howell Mill....we ask them to make the crust x-tra thin and it's pretty good....for Southern pizza...

  12. Oooops! On second look, my old eyes were seeing the pizza stone as the crust and didn't identify the real crust! =)

  13. I came to read about Pez, as you had told me, and I found this recipe. Yes!!! I used to use either the exact recipe, or something pretty darn close, only to lose it. I am so excited to finally find this recipe. Now, I just need to find the box with the food processor.
